Children and families are invited to enjoy a summer packed with creativity, history and hands-on fun as Colne Valley Museum launches an exciting programme of Victorian-inspired workshops this August.
The workshops have been designed for young people aged 8–12 and will include a variety of creative activities including art, drama, crafts, cooking and more. Taking place in Colne Valley Museum each session offers participants the chance to explore their creative side and develop new skills while discovering what life was like during Victorian times. All workshops are free to attend and include a free lunch as part of the day. The only catch is participants will need to help to prepare and cook their lunch as part of their fun filled day.
The programme begins on Wednesday 12th August with Time-Travelling Drama, where participants will explore the lives of Victorian children through role play, storytelling and imaginative drama inspired by the museum's collections.
On Friday 21st August, participants will explore traditional Victorian crafts from baking and spinning to making historical toys. This Crafty Heritage day will allow participants to enjoy a day of hands-on activities that celebrate local heritage and encourage creativity.
Food takes centre stage on Monday 24th August with Food and Feast. Participants will enjoy a variety of food-themed creative activities. From preparing and baking recipes in the museum's Victorian kitchen to using food for arts and crafts participants will discover how people cooked and ate in the past.
The programme concludes on Thursday 27 August with a Family Drop-in Day, where everyone is welcome to celebrate the project. Families can enjoy traditional crafts, baking, vegetable printing, museum treasure hunts and a shared community lunch while exploring everything the participants have created throughout the summer.
Throughout the workshop programme, participants will also have the opportunity to work towards their Arts Award Explore qualification, recognising their creativity and encouraging them to reflect on their learning.
Workshop days will run from 10am - 3pm. Places are limited with a number of spaces reserved for children who are eligible for benefit related free school meals.
