There are many roles for which we need volunteers – some require specialist training, which we will provide, but many are just as important and are accessible to all. Examples of volunteer roles include:

• Stewarding – we have volunteers who talk to our visitors about the rooms in the cottages, explaining about the way the families lived in the 1840s.
• Tea Room staff – our Tea Room is well renowned and we are always looking for additional staff to serve and clear away tables.
• Baking staff – we often stage events involving baking of some kind or preparation of marmalade, Christmas puddings etc.
• Maintenance staff – we need to maintain our building
• Schools Team -  we always need help with running our school visits.
• Those with specific skills in spinning, weaving, clogging and other crafts. We also welcome volunteers who would like to learn a skill with a view to demonstrating to the public when we are open.

We value our members who support the museum via an annual membership fee which is currently £15. Members benefit from free admission to the museum, emailed copies of ‘The Shuttle’ and ‘Warp and Weft’ and have a vote at our AGM. 

The Museum is independent and does not benefit from funding apart from that generated by the Museum itself. One avenue of support is to make a donation. Please use our PayPal link which also provides an opportunity to add Gift Aid. See our privacy policy here

We hold twelve separate Collections and aim to include items from the Victorian period as a priority. We can arrange for members of the public to view specific items in our collections by appointment. Collection storage is limited. If you would like us to consider a donation, please complete the Item Donation form. We will respond with a decision whether to invite you in to show us the item as soon as possible.
