The plate was designed to commemorate the museum's 40th birthday in 2010. The museum opened in November 1970. Tony Haigh, the designer, included images of the museum, a hand loom, Westwood Mills, Golcar Village, Crimble Clough, Milnsbridge and the Packhorse Bridge at Eastergate in Marsden. The images look like water colour paintings and are predominantly pale green.
